Student Ministry at Sunrise Mountain

.
Teenagers are important in the life and ministry of Sunrise Mountain.

  • They're not only the church of the future, they're a part of the church right now.

  • So, Sunrise Mountain's Student Ministry is designed to reach and minister to the special and critical needs of students in 7th grade through college.

Who

  • Every young man or young lady in grade 7 through college or the same age as those students is welcome to be part of SMBC's Student Ministry.

  • Under the leadership of our brand new Youth Council, which includes youth representatives as well as adult volunteers and parents, there is an exciting anticipation of seeing God move and grow our group not only in its numeric size, but to bring spiritual maturity and excitement to the lives of our wonderful teenagers too.

What

  • Student Ministry is a multi-faceted ministry of evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, worship, and missions.

  • So, whether it’s Sunday morning Bible study, mid-week worship and study, weekend and summer fun activities such as retreats and camps, concerts, youth worship times or helping out in mission projects, Student Ministry is action-packed and focused on helping students come through this important and difficult time of personal development with an awareness of how God has uniquely created and gifted them for the wonderful future He has in store for them, and giving them hands-on opportunities of experiencing and serving Him, and discovering how God wants to and will work in and through them to accomplish His mission and bring purpose and meaning to their lives.

When

  • Every-week gatherings:

    • Each Sunday SMBC's Student Ministry hosts a Sunday morning time of Bible study, speaking directly to the particular and unique needs of teenagers, and led in ways that allow participation and "hands-on" learning.

    • Other events (mid-week, weekend, special events, etc.) add to the opportunities for fellowship (crazy fun times as well as get-acquainted with others times), worship (in ways particular meaningful and conducive to youth involvement) and discipleship.

      • Again, it's designed with the unique and special interests of teens in mind.

  • Special events throughout the year:

    • Weekends, holidays, spring and winter breaks, and the summer provide especially exciting opportunities for Student Ministry events and activities.

    • Our group just returned from a wonderful week of camp in Colorado, and other "big events" are being discussed and planned as we speak, with input from our teenagers, youth volunteers and parents.

Where

  • Depending on the event, sometimes the event will be hosted on Sunrise Mountain’s campus, other times it might be in a volunteered home, sometimes it will be at a concert venue or at a retreat center or summer camp site, sometimes it’s at a pizza establishment or recreation facility, etc.

  • But the main place Student Ministry takes place is in the hearts of the students.

Why

  • The “why” question is the easiest of all:

    • Because over 80% of persons who come to accept Jesus as personal Lord and Savior do so before they are 18 years of age, and more than 75% do so before they are 22 years of age.

    • So, the greatest opportunity to reach and make an impact on a person’s life is while he or she is a student.

    • It's also the time in each person's life when major decisions are being formulated: questions about marriage, military involvement, education, vocation and career, etc.

Student Ministry...

  • It's high energy!

  • It's "cutting edge"

  • It's important!

  • And, it's exciting!
