April's Awana Report by John Meschberger

Well, it's almost over for 2008-2009.

We've had a great Awana year so far and still have some big events yet to go.

  • This Sunday, March 29, is the date of our Awana Grand Prix.

    • The Grand Prix brings our clubbers and their families to Sunrise Mountain Baptist Church for an intense pinewood derby.

    • The kids and leaders always have a lot of fun.

      • And, let's face it, if it's not fun, it's not Awana!

    • However, we never forget the purpose all our activities is the Gospel of Christ.

      • As we state in the Awana pledge at the start of each club: "I pledge allegiance to the Awana flag which stands for the Awana club, whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him."

    • Awana Grand Prix is one of our best opportunities for outreach with the Gospel.

    • Grand Prix brings moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and other relatives together with the clubbers to build, decorate, and race their cars.

      • Many of the people who show up race day to support their clubbers do not attend church and may have never heard the Gospel!

    • As you know, we always take advantage of any opportunity to present the Gospel, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes." (Romans 1:16a NASB)

Nevertheless, Awana grand Prix is only one of Awana's March activities.

  • We also had our Treasure Hunt (ask the Sparks about that one, they found 25 clues hidden around the church in less than 2 minutes per clue).

  • And, our trip to Sonic -- over 30 kids and sugar -- see what you're missing!

Coming up:

  • Our year-end picnic and Awards.

    • Right now the leaders are ahead of the clubbers in the adopt-a-Club contest.

    • This contest is settled at the year-end picnic that involves the winning team choosing the losing team's fate -- usually involving lots of water.
